Cervical cancer screening
A swab is taken from the cervix. The sample is sent to a laboratory for testing for the human papillomavirus (HPV). If the result is positive for HPV, the Pap test (or Pap test) is performed directly in the laboratory.
Why is an HPV detection test necessary?
According to recent studies, over 99% of cervical cancers are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Since the fall of 2023, the INESSS (National Institute for Health and Social Services) has updated its recommendations for cervical cancer screening and replaced the Pap test with the HPV test. This test can detect strains of the virus that can develop into cancer.
What is an HPV detection test?
Samples taken from the cervix are analyzed in the laboratory to detect the presence of human papillomavirus that may be oncogenic (develop into cancer).
What is a Paptest?
Cells taken from the cervix are examined in the laboratory under a microscope to detect the presence of cancerous cells. This is also called cervical cytology.
You have a positive HPV test result, what happens next?
You will be notified, and a Pap test will automatically be performed on your sample to check for the presence of cancer cells. We will also assess your eligibility for the HPV vaccine.
You have symptoms, what should you do?
Do you have condylomas? No problem: you will be referred to our medical director to confirm the diagnosis and redirect you to a specialist if necessary, then you will be treated in clinic via cryotherapy.
Cryotherapy
Treatment of minor skin problems by applying intense cold (liquid nitrogen) to the affected area. This technique freezes and destroys abnormal cells (warts, keratoses, condylomas, etc.).
How does cryotherapy work?
A jet of liquid nitrogen is applied to the lesion for approximately ten (10) seconds to freeze and kill the abnormal cells. Up to two (2) freeze-thaw cycles may be required. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to ensure the lesion heals and to continue cryotherapy if necessary.
How many treatments will be necessary?
This depends on the type of lesions and the area to be treated. However, a maximum of five (5) treatments is possible before you are referred back to our medical director.
